Camera Lenses
What Is a Camera Lens?
A camera lens is a curved piece of glass or plastic that focuses light onto the camera’s sensor (or film) to form an image. The type of lens you use greatly affects how your photo or video looks.
Key Types of Camera Lenses
1. Standard/Prime Lens
- Focal Length: ~50mm
- Use Everyday photography; natural perspective
- Example: Great for portraits, street photography
2.Wide-Angle Lens
- Use: Landscapes, architecture
Feature: Captures more of the scene, but can cause distortion
3. Telephoto Lens
- Focal Length: >70mm (up to 600mm+)
- Use: Wildlife, sports, portraits
- Feature: Brings far subjects closer
4. Zoom Lens
- Focal Length: Variable (e.g., 18–55mm)
- Use: Versatile, covers wide to medium telephoto range
- Feature: Adjustable focal length
5. Macro Lens
- Focal Length: Varies (50mm to 100mm typical)
- Use: Extreme close-ups (flowers, insects)
- Feature: Very short focusing distance, high detail
6. Fisheye Lens
- Focal Length: ~8–16mm
- Use: Creative, ultra-wide images
- Feature: Strong barrel distortion, circular effect
7. Tilt-Shift Lens
- Use: Architecture, product photography
- Feature: Corrects perspective distortion
Other Lens Features
-Aperture (f-number): Controls how much light enters. Lower numbers (e.g., f/1.8) = more light & blurrier background (good for portraits).
- Image Stabilization: Reduces blurriness from shaky hands.
- Autofocus vs Manual Focus: Autofocus is faster; manual gives more control.
