Communication models
what Is Communication?
Communication is the process of sending, receiving, and understanding messages between people (or groups). It's how we share ideas, thoughts, feelings, or information.
1. Linear Communication Model
What It Is:
A simple, one-way process where a sender sends a message to a receiver without expecting a reply.
Parts:
- Sender: the person who creates and sends the message
- Message: the information being sent
- Channel: how the message is delivered (e.g., voice, text, TV)
- Receiver: the person who receives the message
- Noise: anything that interferes with the message (e.g., poor signal, loud sounds)
Example:
- A teacher giving a lecture without asking questions
- Watching a news broadcast on TV
No Feedback:
The audience can’t respond during the communication.
2. Interactive Communication Model
What It Is:
A two-way process where both sender and receiver take turns sending messages and feedback.
Parts:
- Sender & Receiver: take turns
- Message
- Channel
- Feedback: the response from the receiver
- Context: situation or background
- Noise
Example:
- Sending an email and getting a reply
- Messaging someone on WhatsApp
3. Transactional Communication Model
What It Is:
The most advanced model — communication is a dynamic, ongoing process where people send and receive messages at the same time.
Parts:
- Communicators: both are sender and receiver at the same time
- Messages flow in both directions continuously
- Feedback is instant and ongoing
- Context and noise affect the conversation
Example:
- Having a face-to-face conversation
- Video calls or live debates
